Baltimore is the largest city in the U.S. state of Maryland and the 24th largest city in the country. It is located in the central area of the state along the tidal portion of the Patapsco River, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay. The independent city is often referred to as Baltimore City to distinguish it from surrounding Baltimore County.
In Baltimore, you’ll discover a number of places to visit. The major attractions are The National Aquarium, Baltimore Museum of Art, McHenry National Monument, Fells Point’s Privateer Festival, Port Covington, Inner Harbor, Druid Hill Park, Fells Point’s Privateer Festival, Camden Yards, American Visionary Art Museum, Artscape, B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore Water Taxi, Aliceanna Winery, Federal Hill, Walters Art Gallery, Sports Legends Museum, Fort McHenry, Maryland Science Center, Little Italy, The Maryland Zoo, Orioles Legends, and Statue Garden and the list goes on. With hundreds of identified districts, Baltimore has been dubbed "a city of neighborhoods," and is nicknamed Charm City.
The Baltimore Area is known for health and science, which is in part attributed to the prestigious Johns Hopkins University school system, the University of Maryland-Baltimore, and other smaller schools such as the University of Baltimore, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Loyola University.
If you enjoy the surf and sand, Baltimore is within driving distance of beaches and ocean resorts. Or if you’d prefer, head to the mountains. Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York are also easy to drive or train ride away.
